Welcome to Healthy Toddlers Care
We're thrilled to welcome you and your family to Healthy Toddlers Care! Since 2011, we've been dedicated to providing a nurturing, high-quality learning environment in the Mid-City region of San Diego. Our curriculum is designed to help your child grow and succeed by focusing on cultural awareness and fostering a truly diverse environment.
At Healthy Toddlers Care, we believe that exposing children to different cultures at a young age builds a foundation of respect and understanding.
Our program integrates multicultural themes into daily activities, from stories and songs to art projects and meals.
By celebrating the rich tapestry of our world, we help children develop an appreciation for their own heritage while also embracing the unique backgrounds of others.
This approach prepares them to thrive in an increasingly connected and diverse world.
What We Offer:
  • A Multicultural Approach: Our program celebrates diversity, exposing children to different cultures, languages, and traditions through food, music, play, art, and stories.

Warmly,
Bridgette Moss Director/Owner, Healthy Toddlers Care
Mandatory School Tour & Enrollment Forms
To ensure a smooth transition and full transparency, all prospective families are required to attend a personalized school tour of Healthy Toddlers Care. This tour provides an invaluable opportunity to explore our engaging learning environment firsthand. It is mandatory for your child to attend the tour so they too can become familiar with our environment before enrollment. This visit allows us to answer any questions you may have and helps you determine if our program is the right fit for your child and family.
  • Scheduling Your Tour: Please contact us at 619-582-4557 or [email protected] to schedule your visit. Tours are conducted during operational hours between the hours of 3pm - 4pm.
  • Before Your Family Tour: To make the most of your tour, please review our parent handbook beforehand. The tour is a chance for you to see our environment in person and ask any questions that weren't covered in the handbook.
  • Who Should Attend: We encourage both parents/guardians and the enrolling child to attend the tour. This helps your child become familiar with the setting and aids in their initial adjustment.
  • After Your Family Tour: To secure your spot after the tour, please contact us within 24 hours to let us know you would like to move forward with enrollment. If we don't hear from you, we'll assume our program isn't the right fit and will offer the spot to the next family.
Meet Bridgette Moss
Director/Owner, Healthy Toddlers Care
Bridgette Moss is a passionate champion for cultural inclusion in the preschool world. She believes the early years are a prime time to foster a love and appreciation for different cultures, laying a vital foundation for a respectful and understanding future generation.
Her dedication extends beyond the walls of Healthy Toddlers Care, where her family childcare home is a vibrant tapestry of traditions.
Miss Bridgette is committed to collaborating with other educators and is a true advocate for cultural inclusion in early childhood education. Through her work, she strives to create an environment where every child feels seen, valued, and celebrated for their unique background.
Fostering Future Educators: Our Partnership with SDSU
Healthy Toddlers Care has proudly partnered with San Diego State University since 2012. Each semester, college students serve as interns, gaining valuable hands-on experience in diverse childcare environments.
Ms. Moss says the interns are integral to the program because of their natural interest in wanting to learn more about the developmental stages of children. The fact that before they arrive on the micro level of the interns have had some experience within a childcare environment makes it an easily added program because the interns already understand many educational theories and they have a good understanding of the age group milestones and the new laws and policies in place to run a successful program.
All students have been fingerprinted and have a background check clearance through community care licensing.
Ms. Moss's goal is to become a complete learning environment for students who are passionate about having hands-on experience with working with children that will pave the way to their future careers.
Why It Works
Class Size vs. Care Quality: The Critical Difference Between Public Schools and Private Home Childcare for Your Young Learner - Ditch the Desk
Public Schools
  • Emphasis on academic achievement (reading, writing, math).
  • Large class sizes (often 20+ children per classroom, with one teacher & one aid).
  • Teacher-to-child ratios are high.
  • Focus on group activities.
  • Individualized attention is limited.
  • Limited flexibility in daily schedule.
  • Less equipped to handle diverse learning styles or individual needs.
  • Learning environment can be overstimulating for sensitive children.
Private Home Childcare
  • Holistic development (social-emotional, cognitive, physical, creative).
  • Small group settings (often 6-8 children per home, with one teacher).
  • Low teacher-to-child ratios.
  • Emphasis on individual play and exploration.
  • Plenty of one-on-one attention.
  • Flexible daily schedule adapted to children's rhythms.
  • Tailored support for diverse learning styles and individual needs.
  • Calm, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all children.
Our setting is designed for parents who truly appreciate a smaller, more intimate environment for their young learners. We provide a nurturing, home-like atmosphere that stands in direct contrast to the larger, often overwhelming institutional feel of public schools and large centers. This local, small-scale approach allows us to become an integral part of the immediate community, giving parents peace of mind that their child is being cared for in a familiar and accessible location.
Prioritizing Outdoor Learning and Developmental Freedom
We believe that today's young students are experiencing social challenges precisely because the traditional setting doesn't prioritize the large-motor skill development and open-ended play that outdoor time provides. Our commitment to letting kids be kids ensures that developmental milestones like independent bathroom use are naturally supported, rather than being an early, enforced requirement.
The Benefit of Small Ratios for Individualized Attention
Our smaller, private home childcare setting ensures that each child receives significantly more one-on-one time and focused interaction. This personalized attention is crucial for toddler development, as it allows our caregivers to keenly observe each child's unique learning style, social-emotional progression, and specific needs, tailoring activities and support in real-time.
Accelerating Young Learner Development in a Private Home Setting
The home environment itself is less intimidating and inherently nurturing, which can reduce anxiety and promote emotional security for a child just beginning to navigate group settings. This secure base fosters stronger social and emotional development by allowing children to build deep, trusting relationships with their consistent caregivers and a small group of peers.
The Long-Term Value of a Home-Based Beginning
A private home childcare program like ours offers distinct developmental advantages over the standardized environment of Universal and Traditional Kindergarten programs for young learners. As public schools are now accepting children much sooner than the typical age of five, parents must consider the long-term educational trajectory. Your child will be in a structured, public school setting for over 12 years—from kindergarten through high school.
We encourage families to question the choice to enroll them so early in a system where the focus shifts away from personalized care and free exploration toward large group management. Healthy Toddlers Care provides a gentle, personalized transition into the world of learning, maximizing the critical early years with the low ratios, emotional security, and nature-based experiences that build a robust foundation for lifelong success before they begin the long public school journey.
A Smooth Transition for Your Infant
Enrollment Readiness & Transitions
At Healthy Toddlers Care, we are committed to ensuring every child feels secure and happy as they begin their journey with us. While our traditional enrollment begins at 18 months, we have updated our policy to be more flexible based on individual development. We now welcome children as young as 16 months old, provided they are actively walking and independently feeding themselves (no bottles or pacifiers). This focus ensures that your child can confidently and safely explore our dynamic environment.
To support this important milestone, we work closely with you to help your child adjust to our daily rhythm. We understand that transitioning to a group environment can be a big step; therefore, we are committed to making the process as smooth as possible for both you and your child. We can work with you on nap schedules, though we recommend beginning the transition to a single midday nap at home prior to enrollment to help your child thrive in our classroom routine.
Daily Routines and Communication
While we do not provide daily written reports, we believe in open and personal communication. Each day at pickup, we will provide you with a verbal summary of your child's day, including how they ate, napped, and engaged with our activities.
Nutritious Meals Provided
To simplify your routine, we provide a variety of healthy meals and snacks throughout the day. We understand that infants and toddlers have unique eating schedules, and we will ensure your child has access to nutritious food whenever they need it.
What to Bring (And What to Leave at Home)
To maintain a consistent and safe environment for all children, we ask that families provide diapers and wipes. We kindly request that you do not bring outside bottles, pacifiers, stuffed animals, blankets, or onesies, as our program provides all necessary items for naps and comfort. This policy helps us manage our high safety and cleanliness standards.
Children's nails must be short, especially for infants, to prevent accidental scratches.
Financial Information and Fees
Enrolling your child at Healthy Toddlers Care means we commit staff to an optimal teacher-to-student ratio, securing one of our limited spaces. We ask families to communicate their enrollment plans, especially if anticipating a short-term stay, as this helps us manage our limited spots effectively. Your child will receive the same high-quality care, regardless of enrollment duration.

Please note: The most efficient payment method is Zelle. Please only use the Procare payment portal if your bank doesn't support Zelle.
If you choose Procare, please note you cannot set up biweekly automatic payments.
Plan Ahead to Avoid Late Fees
To guarantee your payment is received by the contracted due date, you must factor in processing time:
  • ACH (bank transfers) require a 4-day processing window.
  • Credit card payments are typically processed the next business day (if submitted before 7 PM local time).
We advise submitting any Procare payment 3 to 4 days prior to your due date to avoid a late fee caused by processing delays.
Payment reminders will be sent through Notifii, our new family tuition notification application, for families not on automatic payments.

Collection Agency Partnership
Healthy Toddlers Care partners with a collection agency called I.C. Systems to collect payment(s) from parents with a past due balance.

Student Withdrawals/Termination
Written notification of termination is required to cancel your contract with Healthy Toddlers Care. Your child may withdraw at any time, but you will be charged for two weeks tuition from the date we receive the written notice of termination. Please be aware that we reserve the right to terminate your child's enrollment at any time.

Year-end Child Care Tax Receipt
Parents are provided with a statement of child care payments for the calendar year on January 15th. We do this to verify that we each have the same numbers for tax purposes. You will receive a copy of the statement via email. We also send out texts and post notices at HTC alerting parents to look for the statement in their email. If a child leaves Healthy Toddlers Care before the year end, we will send the statement via email. Statements are processed only once each year.
Tuition and the School Calendar:
Tuition is a flat fee and will not be prorated during holidays, school breaks, or if your child is absent due to sickness, family vacations, or any other reason. Our tuition rates are designed to cover the operating costs of maintaining staff, facilities, and a consistent learning environment throughout the year, regardless of individual attendance patterns. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Financial Hardships: We understand that families can sometimes face financial hardships. If you anticipate a challenge with your tuition payment, please contact us before the due date. We are always willing to work with families to help them get back on track.
Financial Non-Compliance - Could lead to enrollment termination:
  • Continual late payments (subject to $10 daily late fees)
  • Short payments (forgetting 5-week month adjustments)
  • Unpaid balances (child cannot attend with outstanding balance)
Understanding 5-Week Months
Our tuition rates are based on a four-week month. When a month includes five weeks, an additional week's payment is required. This applies when the 5th week of instruction for a given month primarily falls within that calendar month, ensuring payment covers all instructional days.
5-Week Months by Year:
  • 2026: January, May, July, October
  • 2027: January, April, July, October, December
For example, in a month like November 2017, where the 5th week begins late in November and extends into early December, payment for that 5th week is allocated to November's tuition, ensuring all days of service are covered.
Please budget accordingly for these additional weeks throughout the year.
Enrollment Process
Admissions Policy: Healthy Toddlers Care welcomes all children regardless of race, creed, or ethnic background, and we actively encourage diversity. To ensure the best fit and most relevant service, all admissions begin with a two-week trial basis. We reserve the right to observe and evaluate each child during this period to confirm suitability for our program.
1. Initial Contact & Tour
Parents schedule an appointment to tour the school before obtaining an application.
2. Family Interview
A family interview and tour with the Director is required; children must be present.
3. Application Submission
Submit the application along with a $100.00 non-refundable registration fee.
4. Forms Completion
Complete and submit all required registration forms (refer to the checklist on the previous page).
5. Two-Week Trial Period
The child attends school for a two-week trial period or less, as assessed.
6. Final Enrollment Decision
The Director will make the final decision regarding the child's enrollment.

Two-Week Trial Period: The initial 2 weeks serve as an adjustment and trial period. During this time, either the family or the provider may terminate the contract immediately without written notice. Payment is only refundable if the client leaves during this period, or if payment was prepaid for unprovided services. After this period, a two-week written notice is required from the client for termination; payment for the notice period is due regardless of attendance. The provider may terminate the contract at will without notice.
Outdoor Learning Environment & Safety
Here in sunny San Diego, we are fortunate to have a wonderful year-round climate that allows us to spend most of our time outdoors. We believe that spending time outside in a safe and supervised environment is crucial for a child's development, especially since many children today have limited opportunities for outdoor play. Our spacious yard provides a perfect setting for social interactions, physical activity, and imaginative exploration. It is a secure place where your child can thrive while enjoying the great outdoors.
Outdoor Learning Philosophy
Our program prioritizes outdoor learning to enhance cognitive, physical, and socio-emotional development. Engaging with nature fosters creativity, problem-solving skills, and environmental appreciation.
Activities Offered
Children participate in gardening, sensory exploration, free play, water activities and outdoor art projects. These experiences encourage curiosity, observation, and active participation.
1
Sun Safety
Sunscreen applied, hats encouraged, and ample shade provided. Outdoor play is adjusted during peak UV hours.
2
Rainy Days
Light rain activities with appropriate gear (raincoats, boots). Shelter is available for heavier rainfall.
3

Warm clothing required. Outdoor time is shortened based on temperature and wind chill.
4
High Winds/Heat

Distinct Plant Aroma Near the Play Area
We want to let you know about a plant near our main play area: Night-Blooming Jasmine (Cestrum nocturnum).
This plant has a very strong, distinct scent that some people describe as similar to marijuana. Please be aware that if a child touches the plant, the smell can transfer to their hands. While the aroma is noticeable, the plant is non-toxic and poses no health risk to children.
We want to make you aware of the plant and its unique characteristics as it is located close to where the children play. Our top priority is maintaining a safe and healthy environment for every child.

Daily Learning and Engagement
How Healthy Toddlers Care Teaches Culture
1
A Celebration of Diversity:
We focus on exposing children to different cultures, languages, and traditions in a positive and celebratory way. This helps them see the richness and variety in the world.
2
Multisensory Learning:
We engage children's senses to make the experience more memorable and meaningful.
  • Food: We introduce traditional dishes from various cultures. Cooking or tasting new foods is a fun, hands-on activity.
  • Music and Dance: We play music from different regions of the world. Learning simple songs or dances is a joyful way to experience another culture.
  • Art and Stories: We use art projects inspired by different cultural styles and read folktales and stories that reflect diverse traditions and values. This can spark imagination and curiosity.
3
Visual and Personal Differences:
We go beyond surface-level celebrations to discuss and teach about the things that make people unique.
  • Visual Differences: We talk about why people may have different skin tones, hair textures, or physical features. We explain that these differences are beautiful and are part of what makes each person special.
  • Personal Identity: We encourage children to share their own family traditions and unique qualities. This helps them feel proud of who they are while also respecting the differences in others.
By weaving these elements together, we create a program that not only teaches about different cultures but also helps children develop empathy and a sense of shared humanity.
Daily Schedule:
Our daily schedule is thoughtfully designed to provide a comprehensive and enriching experience, balancing structured learning with essential free play and rest.
This balance ensures well-rounded development, fostering cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being throughout the day, complemented by two healthy snacks and lunch.
  • Multicultural Lessons: Exploring diverse cultures and traditions from around the world.
  • Spanish Lessons: Introduction to Spanish language and Hispanic culture.
  • Story Time/ Circle Time: Reading comprehension and group discussion activities.
  • Arts and Crafts: Creative expression through various art mediums.
  • Yoga & Fitness: Physical wellness and mindfulness practices.
  • Music and Movement: Rhythm, dance, and musical exploration.
  • Science: Hands-on experiments and discovery learning.
  • Gardening Lessons: Nature education and environmental awareness.
  • Shapes and Color Lessons: Basic geometry and color recognition skills.
  • Alphabet and Counting Lessons: Pre-literacy and numeracy skill development.
  • Days of the Week and Month: Time concepts and calendar awareness.
  • Learning My Name: Personal identity and letter recognition.
Using Television as an Educational Tool
At Healthy Toddlers Care, we use television as a supportive educational tool, not for "babysitting." It helps us visually expand upon our monthly cultural themes by showing students real-world cultures from around the globe. This approach enhances learning, especially for visual learners.
Cultural Heritage
We value the unique backgrounds of all our families and invite you to share your customs to help us build a diverse and inclusive learning community.
  • Principal country(ies) of your family's heritage:
  • Family traditions you'd like to share:
  • Special celebrations or holidays your family observes:
  • Special dishes you would like to provide for any of our cultural or holiday lunch celebrations:
Please feel free to email me if you would like to share more about your family's culture with us.
School Closure Dates and Holiday Schedule
HTC'S 2026 TO 2027 SCHOOL CLOSURE DATES
Holiday dates are subject to change, but families will receive one-month notice of any changes within their monthly parent announcement email. Parents are responsible for paying for the week of Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring, and Summer Break.

Tuition and the School Calendar:
We are frequently asked whether tuition is prorated during months with holidays, school breaks or when a child is absent. Monthly tuition is the same every month. Holidays and breaks are figured into the cost of tuition and averaged out over the course of the year. When a child is absent, we hold his/her place until he/she returns. Therefore, you are responsible for making your payments on time regardless of the number of days your child attends each month.
Preparing for Your Child's First Day
A Positive Morning Routine
An efficient school morning routine creates a positive impact on all. Starting your morning 15-20 minutes earlier provides a cushion for unexpected hiccups and ensures your child leaves prohibited items at home, helping them transition smoothly from home to school.
Clothing & Personal Items
  • For the safety of all children and to prevent distractions and lost items, we do not allow personal toys, sippy cups, blankets, or outside food.
  • Dress your child simply and comfortably in washable play clothes with closed-toe shoes.
  • To support your child's independence and make potty training easier, please send them in clothing that is simple to remove. We recommend avoiding one-pieces, overalls, or onesies. This makes it much easier for both the children and our staff during bathroom breaks.
  • Provide 2-3 complete changes of clothing (socks, underwear, shirts, pants) in their cubby.
  • All items from home should be marked with your child's name.
  • Backpacks are an optional part of our daily routine since each child has their own cubby. However, we ask that all newly enrolled students and infants bring one to help with the transition.
  • A backpack provides a consistent, familiar place for your child's daily items and helps them get used to the routine of packing for school. For infants, a backpack is especially helpful for holding all the necessary daily supplies.
  • Please ensure the backpack does not have rollers and is large enough to hold communication folders, artwork, and any soiled items that need to be sent home.
Drop-off & Pick-up Guidelines
Procedures: For drop-off, please wait at the gate where a staff member will greet your child and assist them inside. For pick-up, kindly ring the doorbell at the gate; a staff member will bring your child and their belongings to you. Your cooperation helps maintain a safe and focused environment.
Digital Sign-in/Sign-out with Procare: We utilize the Procare digital system for a seamless and secure sign-in and sign-out process. Parents will use the Procare app on their mobile devices to digitally check their children in upon arrival and out upon departure. This system helps us accurately track attendance and ensures the safety of all children in our care.
  • Please do not block driveways during drop-off and pick-up.
  • Reduce music volume when driving on our street.
  • DRIVE SLOWLY: A child's safety is paramount.
  • Sign in to the classroom by 9:00 am. If late, enter quietly and help your child join the activity.
Supporting Transitions: If your child experiences separation anxiety during drop-off, please remain at the gate and allow our staff to gently guide them into the classroom. This approach supports a smoother transition for them.
First Day Checklist: Essential & Prohibited Items
What to Bring
  • Completed parent handbook & immunization records
  • First payment & $100 registration fee
  • Diapers (sleeve/box) & 4 packs of baby wipes (monthly)

  • Sunblock with bug repellent (spring/summer)
  • Medications: Epipen, inhalers, or physician-prescribed meds

Bring an extra pack of wipes if your child has a runny nose – wipes are preferred over tissue.

  • Sandals, Crocs, shoes with holes, or laces.
  • Avoid sending children with hair accessories or jewelry that can be pulled off or pose a choking hazard. Healthy Toddlers Care is not responsible for these items.
Important: Our Shoe Policy
Required: Strap-On Tennis Shoes
For your child's safety during outdoor play, closed-toe shoes with straps (preferably tennis shoes) are required at all times. This prevents trips and protects their feet.
Prohibited Shoes & Risks
  • No laces: Prevents tripping hazards.
  • No sandals/flip-flops: Protects feet, prevents slipping off.
  • No slip-on shoes: Tend to slip off during active play.
Policy Enforcement

Digital Attendance with Procare Connect
We use GPS-enabled curbside contactless sign-in/out through the Procare Connect app. This allows parents to sign their children in and out from their car without entering the building or touching devices.
How It Works:
  • GPS technology creates a boundary around our facility
  • When you arrive within range, you'll receive a smartphone prompt
  • Complete sign-in/out through the app without leaving your car
Setup Process:
  1. We'll send you a Procare invitation via email or phone
  1. Download the app only after receiving our invitation
  1. Enable GPS access for the app on your device
Using the System:
  • Arrive within the designated GPS range
  • Receive notification: "Looks like you are in school. Tap to sign-in"
  • Open Procare Connect app and select the scan icon
  • Tap the Sign-in/out button to complete the process
This contactless system ensures safety and convenience for all families.
A Gentle Transition to Healthy Toddlers Care
Starting school is a big step for both children and parents. At Healthy Toddlers Care, we understand that a smooth transition is vital for your child's comfort and confidence. Our gentle approach helps children adjust at their own pace, fostering a positive start to their learning journey.
1
What to Expect
We believe in a gradual and supportive transition process:
  • Separation anxiety is a normal and healthy sign of the bond you share with your child. It's common for children to cry, cling, or have a tantrum when you leave. In most cases, these outbursts will quickly subside once you are out of sight. To help, we will send you photos and updates on your child's day during the first week.ht help us support your child better.
2
Consistency is Key
Predictability helps children feel secure. Maintaining consistent routines between home and school can significantly ease the transition:
  • Routine: Try to maintain similar sleep schedules, meal times, and daily rhythms at home.
  • Predictability: Talk about the day ahead, explaining what will happen at Healthy Toddlers Care.
3
Don't Sneak Away
It can be tempting, but sneaking out can cause more anxiety in the long run:
  • Build Trust: Always say a clear, confident goodbye. This teaches your child that you will always return.
  • Keep it Brief: A drawn-out goodbye can be harder. A quick, loving farewell works best.
  • Reassurance: Reassure them that they will have a great day and you will be back later.
4
Controlling Emotions
It's normal for both children and parents to feel a range of emotions during this time:
  • Child's Feelings: Acknowledge their sadness or apprehension. Let them know it's okay to feel that way.
  • Parent's Feelings: Your child can sense your emotions. Try to remain calm and positive, even if you feel a little sad yourself.
  • Our Support: Our caregivers are experienced in comforting children and helping them engage in activities after goodbyes.
To help you feel at ease during the first week, we'll send you photo and text updates. After that, we highly recommend using our Homeroom family photo-sharing app, where you can see your child's day unfold in real time.
By working together, we can ensure your child has a wonderful and nurturing experience at Healthy Toddlers Care!
Healthy Toddlers Care Toilet Training Policy
Overview
Toilet training is a significant developmental milestone for children. While Healthy Toddlers Care does not mandate children to be fully toilet trained for enrollment, we have specific expectations and procedures in place to ensure a safe, hygienic, and conducive learning environment for all children.
Not Potty Trained
  • Wears diapers/pull-ups consistently.
  • Cannot yet communicate toilet needs.
Our Expectations:
  • Staff ensures hygiene by changing as needed.
  • Parents supply diapers/pull-ups and wipes daily.
  • Staff communicates readiness signs to parents.
Training/Learning Stage
  • Shows readiness (communicates need, longer dry periods).
  • Practices wearing underwear for portions of the day.
  • Actively toilet training at home.
Our Expectations:
  • Staff offers frequent toilet breaks and positive reinforcement.
  • Parents provide multiple changes of clothing (3-4 sets) and pull-ups for nap/rest time.
  • Consistent parent-staff communication is crucial.
  • Accidents are managed promptly and discreetly.
Potty Trained
  • Consistently wears underwear all day.
  • Communicates need to use the toilet in advance.
  • Independently manages toilet use (pulls pants, sits, washes hands).
  • Has fewer than 1 accident per day on average at the center.
Our Expectations:
  • Staff encourages and assists with independent toilet use.
  • Parents provide 2-3 changes of clothing for accidents.
  • Occasional accidents are understood and handled by staff.
Policy Rationale
Our toilet training policy is designed with the safety, hygiene, and developmental needs of all children in mind. It ensures:
Safety: Minimizing wet floors prevents slips and falls, promoting a hygienic environment for all.
Curriculum Focus: Reducing frequent disruptions allows staff to dedicate more time to educational activities and group learning.
Individual Development: We support children at their own pace while maintaining necessary boundaries for group care.
Pull-ups and Potty Training
We generally do not allow pull-ups due to concerns about hygiene and leakage. However, they may be used for naptime reinforcement for children who are actively potty training.
If you choose to use pull-ups for naptime, we recommend the kind with re-fastenable tabs on the sides. This design makes it easier for both your child and our staff to handle bathroom breaks and accidents, providing better support during the potty-training process.

The Homeroom app is a secure digital platform designed to help teachers and schools share updates with parents. Healthy Toddlers Care plans to use this app to provide families with a window into their child's day-to-day activities within their classroom.
Stay Connected
Healthy Toddlers Care uses technology for effective communication, including email and text messages for announcements and updates.
  • School: 619.582.4557
  • Mobile: 619.288.8237
The best way to contact me is by text message.
While I check voicemails weekly, a text is the fastest way to reach me for a quicker response, especially if your child is sick or can't attend.
Family Updates
Children's behavior can be influenced by home life. Please inform your child's teacher(s) of any significant family developments (e.g., illness, move, new sibling, death, parent separation) that might impact your child. This allows our staff to provide appropriate comfort and support.
Family Meetings
We are always here to talk, but to ensure we can give you our full attention, please schedule more detailed conversations outside of our busy drop-off and pick-up times. For extended questions or a family meeting, you can contact Miss Bridgette directly to arrange a phone, Zoom, or on-site meeting. She is typically available for meetings between:
  • 9:30 am - 10:00 am
  • 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
  • 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Health Policies
We send health alerts via Procare and text message to notify parents of symptoms to watch for. Please notify us if your child is unwell or will miss school (e.g., fever the night before).
Student Drop-Off
  • On non-rainy days, place student items in the outdoor bin.
  • Label backpacks and coats with your child's name.
  • Ensure your child wears their jacket or it's inside their backpack.
  • Children who can walk should use the entryway.
  • Please arrive before 9 AM.
Daily Health Check & App
  • Parents must check child's temperature daily before school.
  • If temp is 100.4°F/38°C or higher with cold symptoms, notify school and keep child home.
  • Log into the HomeRoom Photo App daily for activities, fun play, and essential reminders/updates.
Monthly Newsletter:
Stay on the lookout for our monthly newsletter! It will include a link to our Homeroom family app, our upcoming theme, celebration dates, closures, and other important reminders.
Nutrition, Snacks, and Meals
Healthy Toddlers Care prioritizes nutritious eating and participates in the Child Nutrition Program of Southern California. We offer a variety of snacks including fruit, grains, vegetables, and dairy to encourage healthy eating habits.
Our meals incorporate nutrient-dense foods:
Protein
beans and peas, meat on occasion, no nuts.
Fresh Fruit
Always fresh seasonal fruit.
Vegetables
Fresh or frozen only. No canned.
Grains
Pasta, Rice, Crackers, Pretzels, Bread and Tortillas
Dairy
Yogurt and cheese.
A Typical Day of Meals
A typical day of meals at our center includes:
  • Morning Snack: Fresh seasonal fruit with a carbohydrate like bread or crackers.
  • Lunch: A main dish of pasta or rice, served with steamed vegetables such as peas, broccoli, carrots, and corn.
  • Snacks: We provide at least two snacks per day, often more. These might include fresh grapes during story time or a refreshing slice of watermelon after an active game.
For snack time, we present a variety of foods on shared platters instead of individual bowls. This encourages children to choose what they like and to be more willing to try new foods. For example, when we offer sliced cherry tomatoes or avocados on a tray, one child trying it can inspire others to give it a taste, too.
Seasonal Harvest Donations
If you have fruit trees with extra or unwanted harvests, we would love for you to drop them off for our students.
Baked Goods from Home
Unlike public schools, we happily accept baked goods! If you're a baker and would like to provide muffins, cookies, or bread, we'd love for you to drop them off for the children to enjoy during snack time.

Picky Eaters
We understand that young children can be picky eaters and strive to provide toddler-friendly options. However, we cannot provide custom meals. If your child consistently refuses our meals, you may pack a lunch for them. There is no tuition reduction for uneaten meals. By enrolling, you agree to provide weekly backup meals if your child is a picky eater.
Daily Meals and Photos
Some parents have asked why we don't take photos of daily meals. Please understand that during mealtimes, our staff is fully focused on supporting the students with eating, cleaning up, and preparing for the next activity. We only take photos of special lunches or events.
Health and Wellness Policy
At Healthy Toddlers Care, your child's well-being is our top priority. Our Health and Wellness Policy is designed to ensure a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for all children, staff, and families.
Keeping Your Child Home with a Fever
A fever is often the first sign of a virus, even if there are no other symptoms. Doctors advise that this is a peak time for spreading illness. Cold or flu-like symptoms usually appear within 24 hours.
For the health and safety of all children and staff, please keep your child home if they have a fever, regardless of other symptoms.
Preventative Measures
Promoting daily hygiene, nutritious meals, and active play to build strong immune systems.
Illness Management
Clear guidelines for illness exclusion and return, protecting the health of our community.
Medication Protocols
Strict procedures for administering medication, ensuring proper dosage and authorization.
Emergency Preparedness
Trained staff and established protocols for swift and effective responses to emergencies.

Illness Symptoms & Return Policy
To prevent the spread of illness, children exhibiting the following symptoms must be kept home. They may return only after meeting the conditions outlined below.

Medication Administration
We can administer prescription medication only when:
  • Medication is in its original container with prescription label.
  • A completed "Medication Authorization Form" is on file.
  • Medication is current (not expired).
  • Over-the-counter medication requires a doctor's note specifying dosage and duration.
Emergency Contacts
It is crucial that we always have up-to-date emergency contact information. In case of a medical emergency, we will:
  1. Attempt to contact parents/guardians immediately.
  1. If unreachable, contact emergency contacts provided.
  1. Administer first aid and call 911 if necessary.

Behavior Management Policy
We foster a positive and supportive environment where children learn self-control, respect, and responsibility through consistent guidance and clear expectations.
Our Guiding Principles
Positive Reinforcement
Encouraging desired behaviors through praise and positive feedback.
Clear Communication
Explaining expectations and consequences in an understandable way.
Consistency
Applying rules fairly and predictably for all children.
Individualized Support
Adapting approaches to meet each child's unique needs and temperament.
Our Discipline Approach
1. Redirection & Positive Guidance
Staff will gently redirect undesirable behavior, offer positive alternatives, and reinforce children's efforts to comply.
2. Cool-Down
If redirection is ineffective, · We believe in using these moments as learning opportunities.
For a cool-down, a staff member will sit with the student to talk about their behavior. This isn't a punishment but a chance to reflect and turn the situation into a teachable moment, helping the child understand the impact of their actions.
3. Parent Partnership & Support
Persistent issues will involve parents to collaborate on strategies, ensuring a consistent approach at home and in care.
Medical History
To ensure the safety and well-being of all children, Healthy Toddlers Care requires parents to provide comprehensive documentation for any child with known allergies or health condition. If your child has allergies or a health condition it is mandatory to submit a signed note from a licensed medical doctor.
This note must clearly describe the specific allergies or health condition, potential symptoms, and detailed instructions for monitoring and emergency treatment protocols. This information is crucial for our staff to provide appropriate care and respond effectively to any allergic reactions.
Please review the following list to help you recall any important health information:
  • Medical History:
  • Major illnesses, hospitalizations, or surgeries
  • Accidents or injuries
  • Body System History:
  • Concerns with teeth, ears, or eyes
  • Issues with the heart (cardiac) or breathing (respiratory)
  • Gastrointestinal, urinary, or skeletal problems
